Leo is young and care free, in love with his very beautiful girlfriend, but the relationship suffers when it comes to sex. They break up, and Leo’s confusion leads him to believe that he must “come out”. While dealing with his own sexuality, he encounters Caro, an old girlfriend from his school days. She is carrying a heavy load of her own, and they form a kind of friendship based on mutual needs, but without any real understanding.
Leo’s Room is a plain and soft spoken film. Such is its “ordinariness” and no frills approach that its power kicks in as we gradually get to know the characters. The film sports many amusing scenes and minor characters, but it is Leo’s struggle and the psychological depths of the mysterious Caro that give the film its substance. This viewer was deeply moved by the way Caro’s situation is resolved at the end of the film.
