Mahatma Gandhi Birthday Celebration
Sunday October 2 we celebrate Gandhi, the Indian nation's father and a great inspiration for peace activists and freedom fighters around the world for nearly two generations. On Sunday, he would have been 142 years.
The day begins at Trondheim Public Library at 12.00 with a solemn celebration of Mahatma Gandhi's birthday. There will be various cultural events and serving of Indian snacks. The event is part of India 2011 and a joint venture between India's embassy in Oslo, Trondheim Public libraries and Rikskonsertene.
At 16.00 the celebration continues in Nova 3 with Sir Richard Attenborough's award-winning epic Gandhi in 1982. In 1982 the movie was given no less than 8 Academy Awards. Attenborough won Best Film and Best Director, and Ben Kingsley for Best Actor in his interpretation of Gandhi. Many people might recognize a picture of Mahatma because of the familiar images of Ben Kingsley from the film.
The screening of Gandhi and the events at the library are free of charge. Join us for a great experience and participate in the tribute of a great man.
