Famous director Alexander Payne to Kosmoroma

The award-winning writer and director Alexander Payne is coming to Trondheim during Kosmorama 2011. Payne is this year`s guest of honor and several of his movies will be shown at the festival.

Payne will be holding masterclass in Trondheim and will attend the Miracle seminar; the norwegian moviebusiness` own gathering in Verdal, Mid- Norway. Among the movies to be shown are Citizen Ruth (1996), Election (1999), About Schmidt (2002), and Sideways (2002). The head of the festival, Ola Lund Renolen, is looking forward to this visit.
- Having such a famous director as Alexander Payne coming to Kosmorama is fantastic, both for the festival and for the Miracle seminar.

Alexander Payne has been called one of the most unique filmmakers of today. His films are known for their dark sence of humour and the satirical portraits of the modern American society. He focuses on storytelling and interpersonal relationships, rather than using expensive special effects and getting actors from the A-list. Payne has said that he hopes we are entering a time where films will be judged for their proximity to the real, rather than the absence of it.
- For me, a movie is an opportunity to explore the nature of human relationships and what usually destroys them. Nothing else.

Alexander Payne is a different and perhaps an old-fashioned filmmaker. He shows life as it actually is. And what human beeings are like, both good and bad. He discribes his caracters as people with very complex qualities. People we remember and who we can identify with.

- Making creadible caracters is an undercommunicated lack in our domestic films, says Harry Guttormsen of Kosmorama.
The Miracle seminar 2011 whishes to discuss this issue, and with Alexander Payne as guest of honour we invite you to an exciting day at Stiklestad!
