Minimalen is an annual, independent short film event, covering new international releases and retrospectives, as well as premiere screenings of new Norwegian shorts. Minimalen first came to life in 1988, making this the 21st time. In 2005 there was established a collaboration between Minimalen and Kosmorama.

During five days in March every year, Minimalen screens about 160 shorts. The films are roughly divided in three sections: Norwegian competitions, Nordic and International panoramas and special programmes.
