Mammoth to open Kosmorama

"Mammoth" by the Swedish success director Lukas Moodysson will be the
opening film of Kosmorama 2009.

– This is a fantastic opening film. It has strong qualities, and is
not strange, difficult or odd, director of Kosmorama, Ole Lund Renolen
says.

Why not a Norwegian film?

– There are no new and good Norwegian films that are ready at the time
Kosmorama begins.

Will director Lukas Moodysson appear?

- We're working on it, that's all I can say.

"Mammut" is "a mighty, emotional and beautiful film", Adresseavisen's
film critic, Terje Eidsvåg, reported from the Berlin film festival,
the Berlinale, where the film is in the main competition.

"Mammut" is about Leo and Ellen, a well off married couple living in
New York. Leo is the creator of a booming website, while Ellen is a
dedicated emergency surgeon who devotes her long shifts to saving
lives. Their 8-year old daughter Jackie spends most of her time with
her Filipino nanny Gloria. Gloria has come to the United States to
make money for her family, and in doing so has left her two sons back
home.

One of the sons, ten year old Salvador, longs so much for his mother
that he tries to find work for himself, so that Gloria can return
home.

When Leo travels to Thailand on business, he unwittingly sets off a
chain of events that will have dramatic consequences for everyone.

This was all that Lukas Moodysson would tell us about the film before
it was screened at the Berlinale.

Moodysson considers the film to like "Tillsammans", but is more serious.

One of the themes is children at risk, which is a throughout going
theme in Moodysson's films.

Previous films by Moodysson include "Fucking Åmål" (1999, English
title: "Show Me Love"), "Tillsammans" (2000) and "Lilja 4-ever"
(2002).
