Punk poet honoured

Cult artist Patrik Fitzgerald will be honoured with a record, a concert and a documentary film premiere during Kosmorama this March. Trondheim based record label Crispin Glover Records is responsible for organising the tribute to the man known as ‘The other Bard of Stratford.

The acoustic punk poet with the cutting lyrics can be seen on Friday the 6th of March at Verkstedhallen. The performer tells Adresseavisen that it is flattering that the organizers show such an interest in him and that such enthusiastic fanfare refresh and inspire him to continue working in music.

Fitzgerald experienced tremendous success with the single “Safety-Pin Stuck in My Heart” during the punk era and the ultimate punk love song has been covered by artists such as Chumbawamba, The Wonder Stuff, the Bartlebees and many others.  A best selling album on Polydor called Grubby Stories still remains a touchstone for many who experienced his simple acoustic angry ballads and bitter humour.

Although never making it to the dizzy heights of pop fame he continues to be a well respected figure, cited as an influence by author and poet Benjamin Zephaniah, Oasis manager Alan McGee and legendary journalist and friend of Kurt Cobain, Everett True. The new Millennium has seem a resurgence of interest in this small, brave performer who battled on with his music through many travails and now seem set for new appreciation by a whole new generation charmed by his stripped down honesty and integrity.

The documentary film All the Years of Trying on Fitzgerald, directed by Dom Shaw, will premiere during Kosmorama.
