Four sixteen-year-old boys commit suicide, simultaneously. There are no letters or explanations and the families are left petrified by grief and unanswered questions. The film centres on Josh, a mutual friend of the boys who on the surface seems totally indifferent to it all. When the psychologist asks him about it he only responds with anger. To the bereaved he insists that he didn’t know about the tragic plan of his friends.
Everything is Fine is a thought-provoking film about the terrible consequences suicide has for those left behind. It raises many questions, many of which are left unanswered. The beautiful and somewhat overexposed images, in combination with an exquisite soundtrack, create a transparent and unreal atmosphere. It is like being inside a bell glass. Will Josh ever be able to reconcile himself with what has happened and find a way back to life?
