Martha and Thomas Conroy lost their first child in cot death. When Martha becomes pregnant again, the couple moves away from the city to a small village on the windswept Irish coast. This is where Thomas grew up, and they hope life will be more peaceful there. Martha, however, is an outsider in the village and is made to feel the local xenophobia before long. The situation turns for the worse when Martha takes care of the neighbour girl Daisy. She has just lost her parents in a terrible fire, a fire which the rest of the village blame her for. They even think she is a ”changeling”, the offspring of the evil fairy that has been substituted for a human child. And as Martha soon finds out, these accusations can not simply be dismissed as superstition.
The Daisy Chain might be compared to classics like The Omen and The Wicker Man, but with a strong drama at its base. The film is well shot and composed, and the acting is first-class.
