We are in Somers Town, London. Tommo has run away from a lonely and troubled life in Nottingham. In London he happens to meet Marek, a polish boy who lives in Somers Town with his father. Marek lets Tommo live in their apartment, without the father knowing it, and the two boys spend the summer together. They both have a crush on a beautiful French waitress called Maria, something that puts their newly found friendship to the test.
In an episodic manner, the film strolls along at a leisurely pace and tells the sweet story about the boys and their friendship. Director Shane Meadows lets the film be driven by his two young leading actors, who are nothing short of remarkable. Their funny and charming interplay is what makes Somers Town a good watch. Thomas Turgoose also played the leading part in Meadows’ previous film, This is England.
