Walt Kowalski is an American icon. He’s a retired auto mechanic, a Korean War veteran, he racist and generally unpleasant towards everyone around. He’s recently widowed, and he dislikes his own children and grandchildren. He spends his days on the porch, drinking beer and threatening any trespassers at gun point.

His neighbours are a bunch of ”gooks” he wants nothing to do with, but one night he involutarily becomes the hero of the neighbourhood. When their son gets into trouble with Asian gangsters, Walt brings one of his rifles out on the lawn and lays down the law, Dirty Harry-style. Grumpy old Walt is reluctantly forced to accept new relations with the neighbours, and maybe to reevaluate his attitude to strangers.
