Ignazzio is a highly regarded judge who returns home to Lecce in Southern Italy after many years up north. Here he again meets Lucia, the girl he has never stopped loving. Lucia is now the girl of a drug dealer and has a day job working for a perfume company. However, this is a cover-up; she is actually close to becoming the right hand of the local mafia boss. The lines of conflict are many and it turns into a struggle for power and love.
Ignazzio and Lucia are put to the test – will they be loyal to love or to their respective communities? The consequences are potentially fatal for both of them. Galantuomini is a well composed thriller with classic mob-ingredients, but with a depth to the characters rarely seen in such films. Lucia is the care provider who finds herself in triple crossfire: She is mother of a son who must be kept away from the criminal track, she has the relationship with Ignazzio which also represents a threat, and then there is the family and her own mafia career. But in these circumstances, she proves to be the toughest of them all.
