After making Madri, the documentary that Barbara Cupisti presented at Kosmorama 2008, she became acutely aware of the hopeless situation of the children in the occupied areas. They have little to hope for and it is hard to envisage a life without roadblocks, degradation and fear. Is a future without hate and conflict possible? In two former militant activists, Cupisti finds what might be the seeds of a solution.
Ali Abu Awwad took part in the first intifada and has served his time in Israeli prisons. He has broken with his violent past and started the pacifist organisation ”Al-Tariq”. On the other side, we meet the former Israeli elite soldier Elik Elhanan and founder of the organisation ”Combatants for Peace”. In this film they meet on the same stage and deliver a common message to people. To gain peace one has to build bridges and tear down walls – which means dialog. It is about taking responsibility.
